Patchogue, NY| Freshman Alex Tarach netted his second goal of the season as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team fell short at home to Lehman College, 2-1, on Wednesday evening.

The loss ensures the Golden Eagles start their 2017 campaign with an 0-5 record as the Lightning improve to 3-2 on the year.

Lehman would strike first in the 13th minute when Salh Alzubidi scored with a header off a Adewale Adewusi corner kick.

Just before the break, in the 43rd minute, Alzubidi doubled the guests' lead after intercepting an errant SJC pass and beating keeper Mike Paterson 1v1.

Despite outshooting Lehman 6-5 in the first half, the Golden Eagles found themselves down two goals at the start of the second. Eventually they'd find a breakthrough in the 76th minute when Alex Tarach beat Lehman keeper Chris Mulholland low on the left side with a shot from way outside the box.

Sophomore Rayneri Ruiz would be credited with an assist on the goal and has now either scored or assisted on all six of SJC's goals this season.

St. Joseph's would generate additional chances in the final 10 minutes of the match but failed to find an equalizer and suffered a fifth-straight defeat.

Paterson (0-3) made a season-best eight saves in a match that saw his side outshoot its opponent 17-15. Mulholland was credited with four saves.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, September 17 when they take on Yeshiva University on the road at 8:00 pm.
