Jason Orban Promoted to Head Coach of Men’s Soccer Team

Patchogue, NY| St. Joseph's College (L.I.) Assistant Vice President & Senior Director of Athletics & Recreation Shantey M. Hill announced on Wednesday afternoon the promotion of Jason Orban to head coach of the institution's men's soccer team.

Orban spent the past two seasons as assistant coach of the program and helped guide the Golden Eagles to a Skyline Conference final appearance in 2017.

In assisting former head coach Alex Mendolia, Orban provided support in all on-field activities, including in the preparation and execution of training sessions. A former goalkeeper himself, Orban also oversaw the development of team's goalkeepers.

In addition to his duties with SJC, Orban has lent his expertise to the Stony Brook Soccer Club and was named the program's player development director in the fall of 2017. In his new position, Orban has overseen the development of all players aged  four to 10 and directed staff of six academy teams, boys and girls, at the U9 and U10 levels. In the past he has served as head of goalkeeper development and head travel coach.

A three-year member of the Stony Brook University men's soccer team, Orban started in 27 matches from 2013 to 2015 and posted a 9-15-3 record. In 2015, the Manorville, NY native posted a 6-8-3 record in 17 matches and was a two-time America East Player of the Week.

In 2017, Orban participated in pair of overseas coaching education programs with some of the most prominent soccer clubs in Europe. Last January, Orban observed and studied the professional first-team and youth academy sessions of Real Madrid, Villarreal, Real Zaragoza, EFSD Huesca and Rayo Vallecano in Spain.

In December, Orban spent time with academy directors, coaches and sports psychologists of Chelsea Football Club Ladies and Premier League club Huddersfield Town in England.

A resident of Patchogue, NY, Orban earned a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration (2016) and a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in history (2015) at Stony Brook University.
