Men’s Soccer Drops Senior Day Game to Mt. St. Mary

Written by Andrew Capitelli (SJC-LI Sports Information)

Patchogue, NY| Despite a strong first half, the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team dropped its Senior Day game, 4-0, to Skyline Conference rival Mount St. Mary College at Danzi Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles, who entered the game in first place in the conference standings, slip to 6-7-1 on the season and 6-1-1 in Skyline play and, due to the result, were leapfrogged by the Knights (9-7-0, 7-1-0) who move into first.

SJC dominated the first half, outshooting the guests 11-1 but failed to finish off a handful of point-blank opportunities and were locked into a 0-0 draw at halftime.

Against the run of play, Mt. St. Mary broke the tie in the 48th minute when Joey Dolan finished off a right-sided cross to put the Knights ahead.

Dolan struck again in the 58th and 61st minutes to extend side's lead to three goals (3-0), and just a few minutes later, in the 70th minute and with the Golden Eagles pressing high, Bereket Watts wrapped up the afternoon's scoring with his second goal of the season.

In total, SJC outshot the Knights 15-6 but Tyler Rapp made eight saves for the guests and shut the door on the hosts.

Still with a shot to lock up a first round bye in the Skyline Conference championship, the Golden Eagles wrap up their regular season at home vs. Farmingdale State on Wednesday, October 25 at 7:00 pm. Live video and stats for the match will be available here.
