Men’s Soccer Edged by Mt. St. Mary, 1-0, in Skyline Final

Newburgh, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team saw its 2017 season come to an end on Saturday afternoon with a 1-0 loss to top-seeded Mt. St. Mary College in the Skyline Conference final game in Newburgh, NY.

The Golden Eagles, who posted a 7-1-1 conference record this season and entered the playoffs as the second seed, finish the year with an 8-8-1 record. The Knights, now 12-7-0, receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III men's soccer tournament.

A tightly contested match-up, the sides slugged it out for the whole 90 minutes but the winning moment for the hosts came in the 84th minute. After a foul from outside the box, Joey Dolan curled an attempt over the SJC wall and beat freshman keeper Steven Deng high on the right side.

In a match that saw a total of 32 fouls issued, the team's split 19 shots 10-9 in favor of the Knights. SJC held the advantage in corners (9-4) and scored off one midway through the first half, but the goal was called back for a foul.

St.Joseph's leading scorers, sophomores Rayneri Ruiz and Damian Duda, were held to a combined four shot attempts in the match.
