Lady Eagles Win First Game Over Skyline-Foe Ramapo

Mahwah, NJ - The Lady Golden Eagles stunned the Skyline Conference's pre-season #2 pick, Ramapo College, with a thrilling 14 - 11 victory to give St. Joseph's the first win in their short history   The visitors jumped out to a 7 - 0 lead in the first 11:50, sparked by four goals in 58 seconds.

Five different players scored during that stretch with Karalyn Tetelman starting it off with a nice dodge from out front and a left handed shot at 26:51.  St. Joseph's goalie Erin O'Connor stopped two free positions which sparked a spurt from the Golden Eagles on the other end.

Lisa Terry then took over with three goals in four minutes, with Nicole Lyman scoring her first goal of the season in between them.  Terry hooked up with Jackie Myers at 22:01 and 20:08, and then Myers herself scored on a nice feed from Margot Howard at 19:10.

Ramapo broke the ice at 19:10 on a free position shot from Adrianna Tepedino at 14:42, but Terry answered back eleven seconds later with her fifth goal of the game.  O'Connor got hurt as the first half was drawing to a close and Ramapo scored three of the last four goals of the half, interrupted by a Caitlyn Webber goal at 7:36.

Colleen Fitzsimons was called into action for St. Joseph's, about 2-3 weeks earlier than her anticipated debut for the 2012 season, but the sophomore goalie played well enough to save the victory for the Golden Eagles.

Ramapo clawed back to within one, 10-9 at 16:57, scoring five of the first six goals in the second half.  Only Terry (on a free position shot) scored for St. Joseph's until Tetelman gave them an 11-9 lead with 15:52 left.  Ramapo was not discouraged, and scored two more goals to knot the game at 11-11 with 11:59 left.

Perhaps the turning point of the game came soon after when Ramapo got a turnover and had possession of the ball. Cait Halloran got a yellow card for St. Joseph's and now the Lady Eagles were shorthanded for two minutes. However, they withstood the storm, and Fitzsimons made a huge stop on a free position shot with 9:16 left.  St. Joseph's was able to clear the ball, and scored what would turn out to be the winning goal on a beautiful pass from Tetelman to Jackie Myers, who drilled the ball into the back of the net with 8:09 remaining.

Ramapo won the draw, but Meghan Lapham caused a turnover to give possession back to St. Joseph's.  After a missed shot, Ramapo came down again and Fitzsimons made another big save at 6:28. After the action went back and forth, Amanda D'Onofrio caused a turnover for St. Joseph's and this time Lisa Terry was able to give the Lady Eagles a more comfortable two goal cushion at 3:08.

Nicole Lyman controlled the critical draw which eventually led to Halloran giving the Lady Eagles a secure three goal lead with 1:02 left.

Reagan Vier had seven saves for Ramapo, and Amanda Barretta finished with four goals; Colleen Steel had three goals and an assist; while Adrianna Tepedino had two goals and three assists. Teresa Gustafson and Amanda Ferry also scored goals for Ramapo, which falls to 0-1 in the Skyline

Terry led St. Joseph's with seven goals on nine shots, Myers scored two goals and had two assists, and Tetelman scored twice and added an assist.  Halloran, Webber, and  Lyman all added goals for the Lady Eagles.

Webber was magnificent on the draws with seven controls, while Lyman added five. Michele Gulino led St. Joseph's with three ground balls.  Erin O'Connor had four saves and allowed four goals, while Fitzsimons allowed seven goals while making three saves. St. Joseph's won the draw battle, 15 -12, while shots were even at 24 apiece. Ramapo converted 3 of 9 free position shots, while St. Joseph's made 1 of 6.

St. Joseph's moves to 1 - 0 in the Skyline Conference with four conference games over the next seven days starting Friday at Keane.
