Lady Eagles Top Blue Knights 13-7 in Skyline Play

Patchogue, N.Y. - St. Joseph's came away with a very important victory over Skyline-foe Mt. St. Mary's on Monday night, 13-7. Win the win, the Lady Eagles improve to 5-1 in the Skyline Conference and 7-5 overall.  Mount Saint Mary fell to 4-7 (1-3 Skyline).

In a dazzling display of balance and teamwork, nine different Lady Eagles scored goals. Understanding the importance of the game, St. Joseph's jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game amazingly scored by different players. Caitlynn Webber got the ball rolling at 28:44, and Karalyn Tetelman was successful on a free position shot at 27:40.  Then Alyssa Cordano scored an unassisted goal at 24:02 followed by Grace Ann Fallon just 25 seconds later. Nicole Lyman drove the length of the field for the third time this season and Lisa Terry from Fallon at 21:46 gave the Lady Eagles the comfortable early lead.

The team's split four goals over the remainder of the first half. Mount Saint Mary's Ela Igdeler from Nicole Palmieri put them on the board at 16:45.  Karalyn Tetelman scored a man up goal at 12:02 for St. Joseph's. Amanda Giarrizzo then hit a free position shot at 9:43 and Webber at 7:33 again gave SJC a six goal lead at the half.

The two squads also split the first two goals of the second half, with Jackie Myers off a feed from Michelle Gulino opening the scoring and then MSM's Danielle Krupka scoring at 19:22 to make it 9-3 St. Joseph's.  St. Joseph's then went on a three goal tear to open up their largest margin of the game. Terry and Shanise Brown scored unassisted goals just 17 seconds apart.  It was Brown's first goal of the year. Gabby Bourguignon scored a beautiful left handed goal for her second of the season at 13:46, giving the home team a 12-3 lead.

Mount Saint Mary didn't go down without a fight as wasn't done as they went on their own four goal outburst to cut the lead to five. Amanda Giarrizzo scored twice, Kaileen Spadaro added one and Nicole Cacioppo's goal with 4:34 left in the game pulled the Blue Knights back to their closest deficit since the first seven minutes of the game. SJC's freshman sensation, Lisa Terry then hit a free position shot, her 42nd goal of the season, to close out the scoring. 

Erin O'Connor was great in goal, making 10 saves while only allowing just seven goals. The nine different goal scorers represented a season high for St. Joseph's. Webber had another big game at the draw circle, controlling seven draws and Gulino and Lyman pitched in with three others. SJC won the draw battle 14-7and outshot Mt. St. Mary's 28-17 on the day.

The Lady Eagles have a big game with first place and undefeated Farmingdale on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Danzi Stadium.
