Eagles Improve to 2-0 in Skyline with Second Upset Win

Elizabeth, N.J. - The Golden Eagles continued their winning ways on Friday night, surprising pre-season #4 Kean University, in a hard fought 10 - 7 victory.  St. Joseph's was led by their pair of freshmen attackmen Cait Webber and Lisa Terry each notching a hat trick for the Golden Eagles.

Once again, the underdog Lady Eagles, as with Ramapo last week, came out on fire early as they jumped to a quick 2 - 0 lead, with Terry scoring off Erin Sullivan first assist of the season in the first thirty seconds of the game. Terry added another goal at 25:37 on a free position shot after a penalty by Kean.

After 15 minutes of back and forth action, Kean would storm back with three goals in six minutes as Lyndsey Cannon would hit two free position shots and assist on a goal by Ciara Mastrodomenico.  Alyssa Cordano would then score her first goal of the season for SJC, on a feed from Karalyn Tetelman with forty-two seconds left in the first half to knot the game at three.

St. Joseph's came out and scored the first three goals in the second half, led by Webber drilling a shot into the cage at 27:31, and then following it up at 25:56 with another one-on-one goal. Terry added a free position shot at 22:28 to put SJC up 6-3. The three-goal lead was short lived, however, as Kean came back with two goals of their own to cut the lead to 6-5 with 18:41 left.

Once again, St. Joseph's scored their own back-to-back goals with Michelle Gulino (18:18) and Tetelman (15:15) each going one-on-one with fancy moves to give the visitors a three-goal lead once again at 8-5.  Tetelman's goal would prove to be the eventual game-winner.

Kean wouldn't give up however, and scored two goals in thirty-nine seconds, the last making it an 8-7 game with 13:54 left.  At 9:35 Halloran stretched the Eagles lead at the end of a game, coming around the cage and putting away a shot to provide a little breathing room. Webber would end the scoring with her third goal of the game with 5:52 remaining.

Nicole Lyman once again led a ferocious St. Joseph's defense which gave up their fewest goals of the season to a high-scoring Kean team. Liz Pulaski and Gulino were relentless on defense in front of Erin O'Connor with seven saves in goal.  Tetelman finished with a goal and an assist, while Gulino, Halloran and Cordano each added a goal.

St. Joseph's gets right back on the field Sunday with their third Skyline Conference game vs. Mt. St. Vincent in their Skyline opener. The game will be at Patchogue-Medford High School at 2 p.m.
