Eagles Win Streak Ended by First Skyline Loss to Montclair

Montclair, N.J. – Montclair State (4-2, 1-0 Skyline) defeated St. Joseph's (3-5, 3-1 Skyline), 17-5, to hand the Eagles their first Skyline Conference loss of the season.  The Eagles who were playing their third contest in five days, were outplayed by the two-time defending Skyline champions from the opening draw.

Montclair State took control of the game by scoring five goals in the first 7:30.  The Red Hawks were led by last year's Skyline Rookie of the Year Kelly Schoeneveld (two goals) and this year's freshman sensation Tierney Conlon (four goals, five assists) and supported by veteran first team All-Skyline players Cora Delfini (two goals, 2 assists), Kailee Beal (four goals, three assists), and goalkeeper Tiffani Henderson (five saves, four goals against).

The home team raised their Skyline Conference record to an incredible 40-1 since the 2006 season.  In those 41 games, Montclair has averaged 182 goals scored and 4.9 goals against.

For St. Joseph's, two-time Skyline Rookie of the Week Lisa Terry was still able to record a hat trick against the tough Montclair defense.  Fellow freshman Caitlynn Webber also managed a pair of goals for the St. Joseph's offense.  They each converted a free position during the game.  Senior Jackie Myers and sophomore Gabby Bourguignon contributed assists on the goals.

Junior Erin O'Connor and sophomore Colleen Fitzsimons split the game in goal for the Lady Eagles, with O'Connor recording five saves. After a 13-2 first half, the Lady Eagles managed to make it respectable in the second half, with a 4-3 tally.

Up next for SJC is its fourth Skyline Conference game in seven days at SUNY Maritime on Thursday evening, to end a very grueling stretch of their schedule.
