Eagles Downed by First Place Farmingdale Rams

St. Joseph's (7-6, 5-2 SKY) fell 11-5 to first place Farmingdale State (8-1, 4-0 SKY) but gave the Skyline Conference leader a scare.  In a spirited effort, despite being short six players, including two starters, the Lady Eagles showed enough grit to hang around for a while and not go down easily as they trailed by only two at the half.

The Rams of Farmingdale started quickly, with Nicole Marzocca (27:35) and Krystin Shand (26:29) giving them a two-goal lead in the first three and a half minutes of the game. St. Joseph's remained patient and answered back quickly, with Jackie Myers scoring off a feed from Lisa Terry at 24:38.  Terry then scored on a solo effort to tie the game at 18:43.

From there, Farmingdale took a 3-2 lead on a goal by Andrea Kiefer, then Terry, off of  a free position shot tied it again. Carly Schneider gave the Rams their third lead of the game at 4:25, but Terry once again answered off a pass from Karalyn Tetelman at 2:09 to knot the game at 4-4. But the Rams would score two goals seventeen seconds apart on the final minute, to take a 6-4 lead into the half. Jordyn Hasemann scored at 1:08 and Christy Thoden took the draw and went all the way in at 0:51.

The depleted Lady Eagles were still energized and had notions of upset on their mind in the second half, but would run out of gas. Slowly the Rams wore them down, scoring the first three goals and extending the lead to 9-4 with just 11:45 left in the game.

St. Joseph's mounted one last effort to get back in it, with Karalyn Tetelman hitting a free position shot, but then Courtney Cook made a great save on another free position to cut the lead down to three goals. Farmingdale closed out the scoring with two more goals for the final score of 11-5.

Lisa Terry led SJC with three goals and an assist with Tetelman (1 goal, 1 assist) and Myers with a goal, rounding out the scoring. Lyman had a season high six caused turnovers and also added four ground balls and two draw controls for the home team. St. Joseph's held Farmingdale to their lowest offensive total in conference games. Erin O'Connor made 12 saves in the losing effort.

St. Joseph's is now off until April 21, when they will play Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts before finishing their Skyline schedule at Sage on April 22.
