LAX Stays Unbeaten in Skyline with Drubbing of Dolphins

Patchogue, N.Y. – The Golden Eagles (3-4, 3-0 Skyline) women's lacrosse team is certainly the early surprise of the 2012 season as they continue to roll through Skyline Conference opponents with victories.  The latest came over Mount Saint Vincent (1-3, 0-1 Skyline) on Sunday afternoon as they defeated the Dolphins, 16-2, at Patchogue-Medford High School.  This follows a week in which the Eagles upset the #2 (Ramapo) and #4 (Kean) ranked teams from the Skyline coaches' preseason poll in which SJC was ranked seventh and Mount Saint Vincent fifth.

Lisa Terry (four goals and an assist) and Jackie Myers (three goals) spearheaded an offensive effort that saw nine Lady Eagles get in the scoring column.

Gabby Bourguignon started off the Golden Eagles with a full-field dash to goal, firing a shot into the lower left corner at 29:10. Less than a minute later, Terry hit Meyers with a nice pass for the second goal. Caitlynn Webber scored at 23:19 on a solo move around the cage, before she teamed up with Terry, who scored the first of her four goals on the day at 20:01.

A minute and a half later, Karalyn Tetelman scored from out front to make it 5-0. Terry and Myers each scored goals a minute apart to give the Lady Eagles a 7-0 lead halfway through the first half. Terry's goal was unassisted, but Myers received a beautiful pass from Margot Howard for her goal.  Nicole Lyman had led the transition from the defensive end, spotting Howard who then hit Myers.  At 2:31, Webber closed out the scoring for the first half at 8-0.

Terry scored the first goal to open up the second half scoring and Myers added another forty seconds later at 26:20.  Ten minutes passed when Tetelman would score again on an individual move.

At 13:39, Kelly Fraser put in a free position shot to get Mount Saint Vincent on the board. The Eagles quickly jumped back when Michelle Gulino hit Grace Ann Fallon with a long pass for Fallon's first score of the year at 9:09.

Mt. St. Vincent scored again at 5:33 on a shorthanded goal by Samantha Ramsden, but St. Joseph's scored the final four goals of the game with tallies by Fallon (assisted by Bourguignon at 4:27), Terry (free position shot at 3:34), Erin Sullivan (at 1:37) and Caitlin Halloran (from Howard at 0:32).

Lyman led St. Joseph's with four draw controls and headed up the strongest defensive showing of the year.   Webber, Tetelman and Fallon all had two goals, while Halloran, Sullivan and Bourguignon each added a goal.  Erin O'Connor had five saves in goal, allowing just one free position goal on the day. Colleen Fitzsimons played the last thirteen minutes for the Lady Eagles, allowing one goal.

St. Joseph's returns to the field on Tuesday at Montclair State at 4:00 p.m., and then again on Thursday at SUNY Maritime at 7:00 p.m.  Both are Skyline Conference games.
