LI's Eagles Maul Brooklyn's Bears in SJC Rivalry Game

Patchogue, N.Y. — The Lady Golden Eagles (11-5-1) were the victors of the SJC sibling rivalry on Saturday as they defeated the Brooklyn Lady Bears (2-10) in the 5-0 match.

It took about ten minutes for the Eagles to get into a scoring groove but at 10:28, the home team lit up the scoreboard for the first time as Jamieann Eden's (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./ Connetquot) assist found Jennifer Martrino (East Patchogue, N.Y./ Bellport) in the box for an upper right corner score. At 22:31, Jaclyn Hughes (Holbrook, N.Y./ Sachem North) dribbled into the box and found Heather Nolan (Selden, N.Y./ Newfield) who then fired the ball into the net for another Eagle tally. Kaitlyn Chiasera's (Smithtown, N.Y./ Hauppauge) goal five minutes later was unassisted as her expert shot was from within the box.

Hughes logged her second assist for the game with a practiced pass to Laura Heschl (Medford, N.Y./ St. John the Baptist), who found the back of the net from ten yards out, putting the Eagles up by four going into the second half.

For the remaining 45 minutes of play the Eagles worked to get the best possible passes and scoring opportunities before taking any shots. Megan Luen (Hauppauge, N.Y./ Hauppauge) and Nolan found this combination at 57:14, as Luen's precise pass found Nolan in the box for a header into the net and the team's fifth goal of the game.

The Golden Eagles will host Mt. St. Vincent on Tuesday for their seventh Skyline Conference match of the season and what is hoped to be their fifth conference win.
