SJC Scores First Round Skyline Tourney Knockout of Purchase

Patchogue, N.Y.—Judging by their 6-0 first round playoff victory over the Purchase Panthers (5-13) on Saturday, the Lady Golden Eagles (15-5-1) are hungry to take it all in this year's Skyline Conference tournament.

Senior captain Samantha Garcia (Central Islip, N.Y./ St. John the Baptist) kicked off the scoring for the Eagles, finding the back of the net off of an assist from Katelyn Chiasera (Smithtown, N.Y./ Hauppauge) at 9:57.

Though SJC's offensive efforts were persistent, taking nine more shots before the halftime buzzer, the remainder of the first half was essentially uneventful as both teams tried to find their stride.

The Lady Eagles took the field for the second half ready to tear it up though, going on a four goal run at 62:15 when Garcia's assist found a determined Chiasera for SJC's second tally. Jennifer Martino (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport) was the next to put a point up on the board for the home team, converting an assist from senior captain Jackie Baratelli (Hauppauge, N.Y./ Hauppauge) at 63:31 into a breakaway, dribbling past the Panther's goalie and expertly placing the ball in the lower right corner of the net.

At 67:36, Jessica Cordano's (Oakdale, N.Y./ Connetquot) corner kick found Garcia in the box for a perfect shot and score.  Garcia reciprocated only a minute later, feeding Cordano who then fired a shot right past the keeper from about 15 yards out.  Megan Luen (Hauppauge, N.Y./ Hauppauge) finished off the day's scoring with a breakaway, shot and score after an assist from Jaclyn Hughes (Holbrook, N.Y./ Sachem North).

The #3 seeded-Lady Eagles are slotted to play #2 Farmingdale State in a 2 p.m. road match on Wednesday.  The winner of this semi-final game will go on to play either #4 Old Westbury or #1 Mt. St. Mary's College in Newburgh, N.Y. for the Skyline Conference Championship match.  The Eagles fell to the undefeated Mt. St. Mary Knights 2-0 early in the season and lost to the Rams in a very close 1-0 match in mid-October.  They also beat Old Westbury 4-0.
