Baseball Splits Conference Doubleheader with USMMA 1-0, 3-2

Kings Point, NY| On Saturday, he St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team played two tightly-contested games as the Golden Eagles (17-8, 10-2 Skyline) split a Skyline Conference doubleheader against USMMA (9-15, 6-8 Skyline), dropping the opener,0-1, before winning the nightcap, 3-2, at Lower Roosevelt Field in Kings Point, NY.
 
Game 1

SJC 0, USMMA 1

Tied 0-0, in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, USMMA had a runner on second after a walk and a sac bunt when Matt Mundorf singled up the middle to drive in the winning run.

In a pitcher's duel, Brandon Lubrano received the start tossing 6.1 innings allowing five hits and striking out three batters. The Mariner's Slusarczyk tossed a complete game shutout allowing seven hits, walking six and striking out five batters.

Tyler Crafa, Paul Britt, and Daniel Campanelli each had a two-hit day for the Golden Eagles.

Game 2

SJC 3, USMMA 2

The Golden Eagles and USMMA played a taut affair in the nightcap, but Golden Eagles eventually prevailed with the 3-2 win after taking the lead in the sixth inning.
SJC took an early lead win the second inning when Dylan Piscitelli singled to right field to drive in the first run of the contest.

In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on second the Mariners drove in the tying run (1-1) after an RBI single to left field.

In the following inning, USMMA loaded up the bases to cause trouble for the senior pitcher Josh Outsen. The senior pitcher got the ground ball he needed, but the play at the plate was not in time as the Mariner's took a 2-1 advantage over the guests.

The Golden Eagles answered back the next half inning when SJC had runners on the corners with no one out when Campanelli singled to right to push across the tying run. Anthony Raucci came up to bat with two outs, after working a 2-2 count, the shortstop singled up the middle to give SJC the 3-2 win.

Outsen earned the win for Golden Eagles, tossing seven innings, surrendering two runs, four hits, and striking out seven. 

SJC had nine hits in the game as Raucci led the team with three hits and Campanelli contributed with two.

The Golden Eagles will hit the road to take on NJAC powerhouse Ramapo College on Tuesday, April 18 at 3:30 PM.Live stats will be available here.
