Baseball Sweeps St. Lawrence on Sunday

Ft. Meyers, FL| The St. Joseph's College baseball team picked up two wins over St. Lawrence University on Sunday afternoon at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic. SJC opened the day with a 17-12 win in game one before taking game two 3-1.

The Golden Eagles improve to 5-2 overall as the Saints open it's at 0-2.

Game One

After trailing 4-2 through the first three innings of play, the Golden Eagles exploded for seven runs in the top of the fourth highlighted by a Jesse Nakashian grand slam.

St. Lawrence cut the deficit to one, 9-8, with a four-run fifth and regained the lead, 10-9, with two runs in the sixth.

St. Joseph's sent 12 Golden Eagles to the plate in the top of the seventh producing eight runs putting the game out of reach for the Saints.

SJC's Kevin Shine finished 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored. Tyler Sanderson went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Tyler Crafa and Michael Ferrufino provided two hits apiece.

Five Golden Eagles were sent to the mound with Anthony Caminiti earning the win allowing two runs on five hits in 1.2 innings of relief.

Game Two

St. Joseph's broke a 0-0 stalemate in the bottom of the fourth when Nick Vicino singled in Mike Badala who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning.

SJC extended the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Justin Stromski led off the inning with a single and then came around to score on an Anthony Raucci sacrifice fly two batters later. Crafa followed with a double to left and came in on a Nakashian triple in the right-center gap.

St. Lawrence made some noise in the top of the seventh, but SJC starter Austin Turner limited the damage to just one run to claim the 3-1 win.

Stromski led SJC at the plate going 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Turner earned his first win of the season scattering six hits and allowing just one run in a complete game effort.

St. Joseph's resumes play at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic on Monday when they face Bethany (W.V.). Game one is slated to start at 9:00 am with game two to follow.
