Baseball Splits with Bethany

Ft. Meyers, FL| The St. Joseph's College baseball team split a pair of non-conference games at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic with Bethany College (W.V.) on Monday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles (6-3) edged out the Bison (9-2)  2-1 in game one of the doubleheader before falling 6-3 in game two.

Game One

After the Bison pushed a run across in the top of the first, the Golden Eagles wasted no time evening the score in the bottom half of the inning. Tyler Sanderson singled to right to move Tyler Crafa who reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning setting up Jessie Nakashian for a sacrifice fly to knot the game at one.

SJC would go ahead in the bottom of the third when back-to-back doubles from Anthony Raucci and Crafa resulted in the go-ahead run.

SJC's Tim Woodford settled in allowing just one hit through the final four innings to secure the 2-1 victory.

Woodford improved to 1-0 on the season allowing one run on three hits in a complete game effort.

Game Two

St. Joseph's was leading 3-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth when the Bison started the inning in four straight singles resulting in two runs to tie the game at three. A sacrifice fly and a two-run home run followed putting Bethany ahead 6-3.

The Golden Eagles had runners on in the seventh but were unable to push anyone across.

SJC's Tyler Villez was tagged with the loss allowing four runs on four hits out of the bullpen.
