Men’s Soccer Blanks Maritime on Tuesday, Clinches Playoff Berth

Patchogue, NY| Junior Justo Busto bagged the game-winner as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team shutout SUNY Maritime, 2-0, in a Skyline Conference showdown played at Danzi Stadium on Tuesday evening.

With the win the Golden Eagles improve to 7-8 (6-3) on the season and clinch a Skyline postseason berth. The Privateers slide to 7-9 (3-5) with the loss.

Busto opened the scoring for SJC in the eighth minute when a searching ball from midfield off the foot of Chance Casey found the forward, who beat the Maritime keeper high on the left side for his third goal of the season.

After taking a 1-0 lead into the break the Golden Eagles continued to apply pressure and finally broke through in the 83rd minute when Justin Heredia played a cross from the right to Rayneri Ruiz, who slotted home his third goal of the season at the back post.

Despite outshooting the guests 19-10. SJC keeper Avery Gomez was forced to make seven saves in contrast to Maritime's Michael Rodriguez who was forced to make just one.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, October 22 when they travel to Troy, NY to face Sage in a Skyline Conference match at 5:00 PM. Live stats and video will be available here.
