Farmingdale, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team saw its 2016 season come to an end on Saturday afternoon after suffering a 1-0 road defeat to Farmingdale State in the first round of the Skyline Conference Championship.

The Golden Eagles, who entered the postseason as the #5 seed, finish the season with a 7-11 overall record in the team's first season under the direction of head coach Alex Mendolia. The fourth-seeded Rams improve to 10-7 with the win and advance the conference semifinals where they'll face top-seeded U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

A slow moving first half saw a total of seven shots attempted between the two sides with Farmingdale edging the guests 4-3.

After entering the break scoreless SJC dictated play in the second half, and eventually outshot the Rams 14-4 in the period, but could not find a way to solve Farmingdale keeper Lucas Mallia, who made six saves on the afternoon including a last ditch save off the line in the 80th minute.

The game's only tally came in the 57th minute when FSC's Jovanni Parkinson buried a Tobi Ojuade cross from the right for his seventh goal of the season.

In his final appearance for St. Joseph's, senior goalkeeper Avery Gomez made a total of five saves. The Bay Shore, NY native recorded 378 career saves in 73 games across his four years with the team.
