N. Myrtle Beach, SCThe St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team picked up two victories on Thursday afternoon, topping Wilkes University 3-2 before cruising to a 10-3 victory over Summit (PA) at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic in N. Myrtle Beach, SC. With the wins, the Golden Eagles improve to 3-1 on the year while Wilkes falls to 4-4 and Summit to 1-7.

St. Joseph's 3, Wilkes 2

It was Wilkes that jumped out to the early lead, posting two runs in the top of the first when a Ally Paskas single up the middle scored Mikala Strum and Sarah Birchmeier. With no additional runs scored until the bottom of the third, the Golden Eagles knotted up the score at two after Jillian McFadzen scored Lindsay Corriss with a RBI single and Kristen Arbiter sent McFadzen home with a groundout to short.

With no response from the Colonels in the top of the fourth, Elizabeth Rohme fired SJC into the lead with an RBI single to center that scored Megan Leun. From there Mallory McClafferty shut down the opposition, tallying eight strikeouts on the afternoon to earn her second win in as many days.

Strong at the plate was Corriss, who went 2-3 with one run, and McFadzen, who was 1-2 with an RBI and a run.

St. Joseph's 10, Summit (PA) 3

After Corriss stole home to put the Golden Eagles ahead 1-0 in the first inning, SJC exploded in the second, tallying six runs to build an early 7-0 lead. It began with Nicole Baron's first collegiate hit, which scored Rohme. Two at-bats later, McFadzen used an RBI single to send Kathryn Kamalic home, and Baron would also score on an error by the third baseman. Gabrielle Cinquemani's three-run homer would finish off the inning's scoring.

Summit would get on the board in the top of the fourth with an RBI double, but McClafferty's three-run triple in the bottom of the fourth increased the Golden Eagles lead to nine (10-1). Two runs for Summit in the top of the fifth wrapped the scoring, and SJC eventually claimed the 10-3 victory.

Baron struckout four batters in three innings and earned the win in her first appearance on the mound for the Golden Eagles. Ashley Blydenburgh and Sandra Foster provided relief efforts and struckout a combined seven batters.

Corriss again led the offense with a 3-4 effort, scoring one run. McFadzen was 2-3 with an RBI and two runs, and McClafferty and Cinquemani knocked in three runs each.
