Softball Picks Up Two More Wins in South Carolina

N. Myrtle Beach, SC| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team collected two more wins at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic in N. Myrtle Beach, SC on Friday, dismissing Wentworth 8-0 and St. Elizabeth 11-0. With the win, the Golden Eagles move to 5-1 on the season while Wentworth falls to 1-4 and St. Elizabeth to 3-6.

St. Joseph's 8, Wentworth 0 (5 innings)

After pulling ahead 2-0 in the top of the first, the Golden Eagles doubled their lead in the second inning, when Jillian McFadzen used a triple to score Elizabeth Rohme and Madeline Sganga.

Fast forward to the fourth inning, where Nicole Baron scored after McFadzen reached first on an error to put the Golden Eagles up 5-0. Later in the frame, McFadzen and Kristen Arbiter would score on a passed ball, and McClafferty would send Gabrielle Cinquemani home with an RBI double to increase the deficit to 8-0. With no answer from Wentworth in the fourth and the fifth, Golden Eagles earned the run-rule victory.

Sandra Foster picked up her first win of the season, striking out one batter in five innings. Hayley Rutkey was credited with the loss for Wentworth.

Sganga was 2-3 in the contest with one run, and McClafferty went 1-2 with two RBI's and a walk.

St. Joseph's 11, St. Elizabeth 0 (5innings)                                                                              

SJC again posted two runs in the first inning, this time via RBI singles from McFadzen and Arbiter. In the third, the Golden Eagles would explode for six runs, beginning with an RBI double by Cinquemani. The first baseman would then advance home after McClafferty stole second to lift SJC to a four-run lead (4-0).

Kathryn Kamalic's single to short would score McClafferty, and Corriss' triple to left sent Nicole Pitta and Kamalic home to extend the lead (7-0). McFadzen's single to center would score Corriss and end the inning's scoring with SJC ahead 8-0.

In the top of the fifth, McFadzen used an RBI triple to score Corriss before Arbiter knocked in McFadzen with a single. Cinquemani's double down the left field line sent Sganga home and clinched the 11-0 win for the golden Eagles.

Lauren Buturla earned the victory for SJC in her first start of the season and struck out six batters.

McFadzen was 3-4 with three RBI and two runs, and Arbiter was 3-4 with two RBI's and a run. Corriss and Cinquemani both knocked in two runs apiece.
