Softball Splits on Final Day of South Carolina Trip

N. Myrtle Beach, SC| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team posted a 1-1 record on the final day of the Fastpitch Dreams Classic in N. Myrtle Beach, SC on Saturday afternoon, suffering a 7-0 defeat to Mt. Aloysius before earning a 9-1 victory over Hunter. The Golden Eagles begin the season with a 6-2 record as Mt. Aloysius improves to 4-9 and Hunter falls to 1-5.

Mt. Aloysius 7, St. Joseph's 0

After allowing two runs in the first inning and two in the third, Mt. Aloysius finished off the Golden Eagles with a three-run seventh and claimed the 7-0 victory.

Lauren Buturla earned the start—and was handed the loss—for SJC and struckout three batters, allowing four hits and four runs in 2.2 innings. Stevi Confer pitched two innings and picked up the victory.

Jillian McFadzen went 1-3 and recorded a double, and Mallory McClafferty was 1-2 with a double.

St. Joseph's 9, Hunter 1

Hunter posted the first run of the game in the top of the second, but the Golden Eagles responded in the bottom of the second with four runs with the highlight being Nicole Baron's RBI double that scored McClafferty and Megan Leun.

In the fourth, SJC posted four more runs, beginning with Kristen Arbiter's triple that sent Madeline Sganga and Leun home. Gabrielle Cinquemani's triple with the next at-bat scored Arbiter, and McClafferty's single fired Cinquemani home and extended the lead to seven runs (8-1).

SJC clinched the 9-1 6 inning victory when a McClafferty walk forced McFadzen home in the bottom of the sixth.

McClafferty earned her third win of the season, striking out seven and allowing three hits and one run in six innings.

Arbiter highlighted the offense with a 2-3 afternoon, driving in two runs and scoring another.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, March 19 when they open their Skyline Conference campaign with a doubleheader vs. St. joseph's (Brkln) on the road at 12:00 PM. Live stats available here.
