Women's Tennis Comes Up Short in Skyline Final 5-1

Farmingdale, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's tennis team fell short of the Skyline Conference title on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 5-1 contest to Farmingdale State. Farmingdale earned the Skyline Conference Championship and an NCAA qualification bid.

Shannon Merker and Kelley McGrath were edged out by Priscilla Signore and Quart-ul-ain Ral to earn the first doubles point for Farmingdale. Victoria Makulik and Michelle Stanczak received the only point for the Golden Eagles, picking up an 8-2 decision over Michelle Fredericks and Tatiana Rosamilia.

Farmingdale's Denise Liguori and Madison Schrader defeated Victoria Panicola and Rita Wehrli 9-7 as the Rams came away with a 2-1 lead in doubles play. 4, 1

From there, the Rams took their momentum to sweep away the singles competition.

Wherli dropped the first match to Rai by the score 6-0, 6-0, and Merker was upended by Signore 6-1, 6-1.

Schrader won the decisive fifth point to claim the Skyline Championship for the Rams defeating Panicola 6-4, 6-2.
