Women’s XC Wins Purchase Invitational

Purchase, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's cross country team took first place in a field of five teams at the Purchase College Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The men's team finished fifth.

Leading the way for the women's team in the 6k race was freshman Gianna Dickson, who placed first with a time of 21:24.4.

Junior Emily Venturi took third (22:08.9) and senior Julia Boris was the fifth-place finisher (22:34.4). Senior Caleigh Capek (22:39.6) and freshman Melanie Walsh (23:02.7) claimed seventh and 10th places, respectively.

SJC boasted a score of 23, which was 25 points fewer than second-place Pratt. Host Purchase finished fifth.

Matt Lopez took second for the men in the 8k race with a time of 27:31.4, bested only by Pratt's Paden Spencer (27:24.7).

Senior Jimmy Malone took 13th place (31:53.3) and junior Anthony Hristidis finished in 25th place (34:12.7).

St. Joseph's, with 92 points, trailed fourth-place Purchase by one point. New Jersey City were winners with 38 points.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, September 18, when they participate in the Bard Invitational in Annandale-On-Hudson, NY.
