Women’s Cross Country Wins 14th Skyline Championship, Men Finish 5th

Milton, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's cross country team won its 14th conference title at the 2021 Skyline Conference XC Championships at Hudson Valley Sports Dome on Sunday afternoon. The men's team earned a fifth-place finish.

The SJC women were powered by freshman Gianna Dickson, who placed second with a 6k time of 25:57.3 and was named Rookie of the Year. 

Junior Emily Venturi (26:13.6) was third and freshman Melanie Walsh (26:42.4) took sixth. Both joined Dickson on the Skyline All-Conference First-Team. 

Five other Golden Eagles placed on the All-Conference Second-Team: Caleigh Capek (9th), Julia Boris (10th), Marissa Degni (11th), Julia Schaefer (13th), and Alex Ehrhart (14th).

The SJC women posted a team score of 30 and maintained a 46-point gap between second-place SUNY Maritime. Head coach Jim Crowley was named Coach of the Year.

The men scored 109 points and trailed fourth-place Farmingdale by seven points. The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy won the title with 32 points.

Junior Matt Lopez landed on the All-Conference First-Team with a third-place finish (27:34.2) in the 8k race.

Junior Patrick Wuss (31:38.2) finished 23rd and Anthony Hristidis (31:51.6) took 27th place.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, November 6, when they compete at the ECAC Championships at Hudson Valley Sports Dome. Both the women's and men's teams are defending champions in their respective races.
