Cross Country Participates in NJIT Highlander Invitational

Newark, NJ| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's and women's cross country teams placed 16th and sixth, respectively, at the NJIT Highlander Invitational at Branch Brook Park (Newark, NJ) on Saturday afternoon.

Caleigh Capek powered the women's team with a 29th place finish and a 5k time of 19:49.3. Gianna Dickson finished in 39th place (20:13.1) and Emily Venturi took 43rd place (20:17.8).

SJC totaled 198 points and was the second-best Division III school behind second-place 

Stockton (77). Seton Hall scored 40 points and placed first.

For the men, Matt Lopez finished in fourth place with a program- and course-best 8k time of 25:23.9. 

Patrick Wuss placed 77th (29:01.8) and Jimmy Malone took 131st place (31:12.2).

With 429, the men were the fourth-best Division III school at the meet. Seton Hall (36 points) took first and NJIT (81) was second.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, October 10, when they host the Golden Eagle Invitational at Bethpage State park at 11:00 am.
