St. Joseph’s (L.I.) Wins Second-Straight Skyline Presidents Cup

Written by Andrew Capitelli (SJC-LI Sports Information)

New York, NY| For the second-straight season and sixth time in school history, the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) athletic department was awarded the Skyline Conference Presidents Cup for the 2015-16 academic year by Commissioner Linda Bruno on Thursday afternoon. The award, which was implemented in 2007-08, "measures all-sports excellence in conference competition."

In 2015-16, the Golden Eagles won a department-best five Skyline Conference titles (men's golf, women's cross country, women's soccer, women's lacrosse and baseball) and finished runner-up twice (women's tennis and men's cross country).

"Winning the Presidents Cup is an extreme honor as it represents a collective department victory," said Assistant Vice President & Senior Director of Athletics & Recreation Shantey Hill. "As part of our mission, we seek to be at the forefront amongst our peers while remaining faithful to our foundation of excellence; the belief that the success of the overall department is greater than that of any individual or team. This award affirms that and I am thankful to our staff, student-athletes and coaches for uplifting, supporting and celebrating each other."

Out of a possible 130 points, St. Joseph's earned 96.5 points (.742), edging second-place Farmingdale State who finished with 94.75 points of a possible 129 (.734).

The Sage Colleges (.654) and Mount Saint Mary College (.642) rounded out the top four.

A school earns points toward the Presidents Cup based upon the conference finish in each sport in which it competes. For each sport, the maximum number of points an institution can earn is equal to the number of teams competing in that sport. For sports with regular-season and conference tournament play, a school receives points based upon an average of the regular-season and conference tournament finishes. For sports with only conference championships, the finish in the championship determines the Presidents Cup points. An overall rating is generated for each school which is a percentage of total points earned divided by total points possible for that school.
