Six Golden Eagles Earn All-Conference Honors; Caputo Named Coach of the Year

New York, NY| The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) baseball team garnered six end-of-season awards when the conference released its All-Conference teams on Wednesday afternoon.

Junior Joe Sanguedolce, senior Phil Krpata, and sophomore Dante Morabito were all named to All-Conference First Team. Additionally, seniors Ryan Decoursey and Paul Gugliuzzo, and sophomore Jack Kelly secured All-Conference Second Team honors.

In his first season at the helm, head coach Tom Caputo was named Coach of the Year after guiding the Golden Eagles to a record-breaking 30 wins this season and back-to-back Skyline Conference regular season and championship titles. 

Sanguedolce helped guide the Golden Eagles this season ranking tied for first with 50 hits and finishing third overall in runs with 37 runs scored. The junior finished the season with a .357 batting average, with seven doubles, four home runs, and 28 runs batted in. The second baseman, totaled 20 stolen bases, 83 putouts, and 74 assists. The Manorvillle, NY native was named Baseball Player of the Week once this season and received Weekly Honor Roll

Krpata led the Golden Eagles this season tying a team-high with 50 hits and breaking a single-season school record for stolen bases with 47 and run scored with 53 runs. The senior recorded a .345 batting average, adding six doubles, one triple, six home runs, and 34 runs batted in this season. The outfielder accumulated 64 putouts and four assists this season. The Farmingdale, NY native secured Baseball Player of the Week two times this season, while also securing Most Outstanding Player of the Skyline Conference Championship tournament.

Morabito finished with a team-leading 2.89 ERA across 43.2 innings pitched to go along with 33 strikeouts. The sophomore started two games this season, amassing a 1-0 record, and finished with three saves. The Medford, NY native secured Baseball Pitcher of the Week once this season while also being named to the Weekly Honor Roll twice.

This season, Decoursey pushed the Golden Eagles with 41 hits and 31 runs scored. The senior ranked second on the team with 12 doubles, and third on the team with 32 RBIs, while also contributing one triple, four home runs seven stolen bases, and finishing with a .366 batting average. The shortstop recorded 36 putouts and 92 assists. The Centereach, NY native was named to the Baseball Weekly Honor Roll three times this season.

Gugliuzzo ranked second on the team in runs scored with 38 runs scored and fourth on the team with 42 hits. The senior also finished second on the team with 23 stolen bases with four doubles, one triple, one home run, 21 RBIs, and a .339 batting average. The outfielder tallied 80 putouts and five assists this season. The Fort Salonga, NY native garnered Baseball Weekly Honor Roll once this season.

Kelly led the Golden Eagles with 55.2 innings pitched this season, producing a record of 6-1, with one save. The sophomore ended the season with a 3.56 era striking out 37 batters. The Lindenhurst, NY native secured Pitcher of the Week and Baseball Weekly Honor Roll each this season.
