Eagles Sink Pioneers

Patchogue, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College baseball team (8-10) upset the Pioneers of William Paterson with a 10-7 victory.

The Golden Eagles jumped out big in the bottom of the first with four runs. An infield single by junior Dan Diblasi (Lindenhurst, N.Y. / Lindenhurst) scored the first run. A wild pitched plated senior Kenny Willms (Centereach, N.Y. / Centereach) and moved the runners over to second and third. An error by the second baseman led to two more runs coming across.

The Pioneers answered in the top of the second and were able to score one run off sophomore starter Glenn Patriss (Wading River, N.Y. / Riverhead). The Eagles added three more in the bottom of the third off an RBI single by senior Brian Hannigan (West Babylon, N.Y. / St. John the Baptist) and a two-RBI single by Anthony Andreani (White Stone, N.Y. / Holy Cross).

The bottom of the fourth saw three more runs come across for St. Joseph's. Hannigan doubled down the left field line and advanced to third on the throw home. He came home in the next at-bat on a wild pitch to give the Eagles a 10-1 lead. That was all Patriss needed as he pitched five effective innings allowing three runs and striking out three in his second win of the season. Steve Szobesky (Seaford, N.Y. / Seaford) pitched three innings in route to his first save of the season.

Hannigan had a great game for St. Joseph's, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and runs scored. Diblasi was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two walks.
