Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team (2-3) came as close as two points early in the second half but was outlasted by Connecticut College (4-2) in a 77-67 defeat inside the Danzi Center on Thursday evening.
SJC shot 40.4% from the floor and was led by senior Isaiah Moore, who was 5-for-12 and scored a team-best 14 points.
Senior Trey Kinard shot 3-for-6 for 10 points, and sophomore Frank Basile led the Golden Eagles in both rebounds (5) and assists (5).
Connecticut's David Labossiere led all players with 27 points on 9-for-13 shooting from the field.
The Camels smothered the hosts early and went up 23-11 6:44 into the first half. With 8:09 to play, the Golden Eagles, down 32-19, began a rally that saw them score 17 of the half's final 27 points and entered the break down six points (42-36).
Basile's layup and Christen Brown's pair of converted free throws brought the hosts to within two points (42-40) in the opening two minutes of the second half, but it would be the closest SJC got to tying the game. Connecticut would re-open leads as large as 13 points (58-45) en route to a spirited 77-67 victory.
The Camels shot better from the floor (49.0-40.4%) and from three (37.5%-35.0%) but were forced into more turnovers (24-23).
St. Joseph's 30 bench points doubled Connecticut's total.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, December 2 when they travel to face Skyline Conference rival SUNY Old Westbury at 12:00 pm. The Panthers will host a Toys for Tots event and waive admission to the game in lieu of a toy for donation.
