Men's Basketball Outpaced by Yeshiva on Sunday

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team suffered an 84-65 defeat to Skyline Conference rival Yeshiva University inside the Danzi Center on Sunday afternoon.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 4-13 on the year (4-8 Sklyine) as the Maccabees improve to 8-9 overall and 6-6 in conference play.

Leading the way for the Golden Eagles was senior Stephen Cohen, who scored 12 points on 4-for-5 shooting from the field. The guard also dished out three assists.

Senior Jarred Marrow went for nine points (4-for-6 FG), three assists and two steals, while Trey Kinard and Frank Basile contributed eight points apiece off the bench,

Yeshiva's Bar Alluf scored a game-best 28 points (12-for-17 FG) and Gabriel Leifer added 25 points (10-for-15 FG) of his own.

The Golden Eagles jumped out to an 11-2 lead 3:05 into the contest but were met by a 27-9 Yeshiva run that saw the guests go up 29-20 with 5:31 to play in the first.

At the break it was a 12-point advantage for the Maccabees (42-30), who expanded their lead to 17 points (50-33) less than three minutes into the second period.

Unable to slow the Yeshiva offense, SJC failed to come closer than seven points away from tying the game and eventually succumbed to to a 19-point defeat (84-65).

Yeshiva was lights out from the field having shot 63.0% to St. Joseph's 43.3%. The Maccabees also held advantages in rebounds (34-21) and points in the paint (42-14).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, January 30 when they head to Kings Point, NY to face the United States Merchant Marine Academy in a Skyline Conference showdown at 8:00 pm.
