Men’s Basketball Outpaced by Purchase on Saturday

Purchase, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team was downed, 96-69, by Skyline Conference rival SUNY Purchase on the road on Saturday afternoon.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 4-19 (4-14 Skyline) on the season as the Panthers improve to 16-7 overall and 12-6 in conference play.

SJC scored four players in double-digits including senior Isaiah Moore, who scored a team-best 15 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field.

Also posting double-digit point totals were seniors Stephen Cohen (13 points), Jarred Marrow (12 points) and Mike Harris (10).

Senior Matt Renahan posted career-high figures for points (7) and rebounds (5).

The one-two punch of Nikeem Deleon (29 points) and Deshawn Cann (27 points) provided for more than half of Purchase's scoring in the contest.

In a game that saw no lead changes, SJC fell behind early and later entered the break down 16 points (53-17). The second provided no reprieve for the guests, who eventually succumbed to a 27-point defeat (96-69).

Despite outshooting Purchase 50.0% to 40.0% from three, St. Joseph's was bettered 54.9% to 46.4% from the field. The Panthers also outrebounded SJC by a 40-24 margin.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, February 13 when they visit Skyline Conference opponent Sarah Lawrence College. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm.
