Wayne, NJ| In spite of a 20-point performance from senior Trey Kinard, the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team (2-7) was defeated 81-78 in an overtime thriller at William Paterson University on Wednesday evening.

Kinard's game-best 20 points came off of 7-for-15 shooting from the field and 6-for-11 shooting from the beyond the arc.

Senior Isaiah Moore contributed 14 points and game-high totals in rebounds (13) and assists (6). Sophomore Frank Basile scored 14 points on 4-for-8 shooting.

The Pioneers were powered by Dapo Badnmos, who shot 7-for-10 and tallied 18 points.

After trailing by nine at the half (41-32), SJC began chipping away at Paterson's lead in the second half. Down 50-42 4:22 into the period, the Golden Eagles went on a 14-0 run and took a 56-50 lead with 9:54 to play.

A three-pointer off the fingers or Kinard with 1:21 left in regulation put the guests up 70-68, but Badmos' jumper with 36 seconds left knotted the game up at 70 and forced overtime.

But it was the Pioneers who took the lead in the extra period and scored eight of the overtime's first 12 points. A Basile layup with 42 seconds remaining cut the deficit to three points (81-78), but that was all SJC could muster before the buzzer.

Though St. Joseph's was outshot from the field (48.5%-43.5%), the team held a steep edge from beyond the arc (40.7%-26.1%). Additionally, SJC outrebounded Paterson 41-36.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday, January 4 when they head up to Riverdale, NY to face the College of Mount St. Vincent in a Skyline Conference showdown at 7:00 pm. Follow the action with live stats here.
