Men's Volleyball Starts Skyline Schedule with a Pair of Sweeps

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's volleyball team opened up Skyline Conference play with a pair of sweeps over New Jersey City University and Yeshiva University on Sunday afternoon. 

Vs New Jersey City 
Key Players:
  • Senior Tyler Anderson led the Golden Eagles with 10 kills and eight digs and three blocks

  • Junior Mark Williams finished with nine kills with six digs and two blocks

  • Junior setter CJ Johnson tossed 34 assists and finished with six digs and six blocks

  • NJCU's James Bajor knocked down 12 kills and setter Alex Casais recorded 22 assists

How it happened:
  • The Golden Eagles were first to reach the 20-point mark in set one, but a 4-0 run by the Gothic Knights evened the score at 23

  • The two sides exchanged points down the stretch before a kill from Johnson ended the set 32-30

  • Set two saw the Golden Eagles finish hitting .500, their best of the match, en route to a 25-13 win

  • St. Joseph's completed the sweep with a 25-17 win in set three

Vs Yeshiva
Key Players:
  • Sophomore Logan Meyer led the Golden Eagles with 12 kills while hitting at a .632 clip

  • Graduate Matthew Dolan pitched in with nine kills finishing with a .667 hitting percentage

  • Freshman setter Dominic Ruggiero dished 30 assists 

  • Yeshiva's Amitai Kolom led the Maccabees with four kills with setter Eidan Horn finished with five assists and three digs

How it happened:
  • SJLI held a slight 11-8 lead before going on a 10-0 run and ultimately taking the set 25-9

  • The Golden Eagles went 9-for-10 at the net in set two claiming a 25-8 victory

  • St. Joseph's closed out the match with a 25-16 win in set three

Next up, the Golden Eagles travel to take on New York University on Tuesday, March 7 at 7:00 pm.
