Baseball Sends Maritime Sailing With Two Skyline Wins

Patchogue, N.Y.  – The Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's (6-7, 2-0 Skyline) got off to a strong Skyline Conference start Wednesday night in a doubleheader matchup against the Privateers of Maritime (4-9, 1-3 Skyline). The Golden Eagles start off perfect in the Skyline Conference as they took both games, 12-2, and 5-2,  led by solid pitching and stellar hitting.

The Golden Eagles got the bats going early in the first game, and kept the momentum rolling from there.  In the bottom half of the first inning, Anthony Bonilla started things off with a leadoff single, and shortly after stole second base. He would later score on a bases loaded walk by Joe Calabrese. In the very next at-bat, James Nakashian would score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Mike Aloisio, getting the Golden Eagles off to an early 2-0 lead.

The team had a monstrous 4th inning as they added to their lead by posting four more runs on the board.  The team combined for six hits in the inning, but the biggest came off the bat of Calabrese who smacked a double to left center adding another 2 RBI's to his day.

On the defensive end, the team was led by Ryan Aloise who only gave up two runs while striking out three batters in six innings of work. He bettered his record to 2-1 with the victory.

Bonilla, Nick Girardi and Brendan Sullivan combined for nine hits of the total 17, as they each had three. Calabrese led the team with four RBI's on the day; a third of the teams total runs. James Nakashian had four runs scored.

The game was cut short due to a 10-run Golden Eagle lead in the bottom of the 7th inning.

In game two, Josh Outsen (1-1) had a solid outing and picked up the win as he went six innings and allowed only one earned run while striking out five and scattering four hits and one walk.  Matt Mills came on with the bases loaded in the 7th to nail down the win for SJC with his first save of the season.

The Golden Eagles got single runs in the first and second innings to take the lead.  Sullivan had an RBI double that drove home Bonilla in the first.  Calabrese homered over the left field fence for a solo shot in the second.

Bonilla delivered his own RBI double as part of a three-run 5th and Girardi followed with a two-run single.

Up next for the Golden Eagles is a Saturday doubleheader vs. CCNY at home at 11:00 a.m.
