USMMA Upends Baseball in Lopsided Contest

Patchogue, N.Y. – The Golden Eagles (9-9) took on a non-conference opponent in the United States Merchant Marine Academy (11-9) on Thursday afternoon, resulting in a lopsided 14-0  margin. The Mariners of USMMA got off to an early start in the first inning scoring nine runs. They would eventually post more runs throughout the game, while shutting the Golden Eagles bats down.

The Mariners got off to a scorching hot start, going through three different Golden Eagle arms in the first inning. They posted nine runs on the board, off of six hits and three errors committed by St. Joseph's on the defensive end.  It was just one of those days for the Golden Eagles and the ball wasn't about to bounce their way for the remainder of the game.

After three up and three down in the bottom of the inning, USMMA returned to the plate in the top of the second and would continue their offensive dominance. They would post another three runs as Bryson Campbell would plate two with a single to centerfield, increasing the Mariner lead to 12-0.

Justus Martin of USMMA had a stellar performance on the mound, going seven innings and allowing just one hit on the day. Sean Balsam was the lone Golden Eagle who was able to connect, registering a base hit to right field.

The Golden Eagles will try to right the ship on Saturday, April 11 with a Skyline Conference matchup against SUNY Old Westbury. They will look to maintain their perfect Skyline Conference record and remain atop the standings.
