Lehman Lightning Strikes Down Baseball, 9-7

Patchogue, N.Y. – The SJC Golden Eagles (13-11) had their second non-conference game in as many days, hosting the Lehman Lightning (7-10). It was a high-scoring affair as there were sixteen runs scored on the day, but the Lightning were able to come out on top of the Golden Eagles, 9-7.

Although SJC got behind with an early deficit, they did even up the ledger in the bottom of the forth. A Joseph Calabrese double would score James Nakashian who was able to reach base on an error. This run cut Lehman's lead in half, making it 2-1, and the Golden Eagles weren't quite finished. In the following at bat, Brendan Sullivan would cash in on an RBI single scoring Calabrese to even the game.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Golden Eagles gained their first lead of the game. Anthony Andreani came to the plate with the bases loaded and smacked one deep enough in the outfield, scoring Joseph Lynn who tagged up from third base.

As the game entered the top of the sixth, there was another lead change, which started to become a common theme. The Lightning posted another two runs on a Matthew Prevosti homerun, putting them on top for the second time in the game, 4-3.

The Golden Eagles would make one more push in the game, as they posted three runs from four hits in the bottom of the sixth answering the Lightning once again. After a couple singles to lead off the inning, Calabrese returned to the plate with runners in scoring position. He converted with an RBI single to leftfield, bringing his season RBI total to a team-leading 16.

SJC ran fresh out of comebacks however, as Lehman again responded in this back and forth competition. They posted another three runs in the top of the seventh and successfully held that lead for the remainder of the game. The final score of the game stood at 9-7 in favor of the Lehman Lightning.

The Golden Eagles will look to break out of this two-game skid this Saturday, as Skyline Conference play resumes. They will travel to Mount Saint Mary's for a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
