Men’s Volleyball Drops Non-Conference Contest to Elms

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Elms College in a non-conference contest inside the Danzi Center on Sunday afternoon.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 5-3 overall on the year as the Blazers improve to 4-3.

SJC was led by senior Matt Cole, who hit .250 in the match and put down a team-best 14 kills. The outside hitter also had eight digs and two aces.

Senior Kyle Allen-Morabito hit .667 and recorded eight kills, and senior Kyle Biggers went for eight kills (.227 hitting %).

Senior Will Flohr was credited with a team-best 14 digs and junior Jason Siriban dished out 30 assists.

After dropping the first set by a score of 25-20, SJC kept pace with Elms in an epic second set that went back and forth before yielding a 33-31 decision in favor of the guests. St. Joseph's had several opportunities to win the frame but was edged in the end.

In the third, the Golden Eagles went up 20-18, but the Blazers grabbed seven of the last 10 points to clinch a 25-23 set win and earn the 3-0 sweep.

SJC hit .149 in the contest and was credited with 44 total digs. Cole's two aces were the only two for the hosts in the match.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, February 8 when they open Skyline Conference play at Ramapo at 11:00 am.
