Men's Volleyball Splits a Pair on Saturday

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College men's volleyball split a pair of non-conference contests on Saturday in the Danzi Center. The Golden Eagles earned a 3-0 sweep over North Central College before dropping a hard-fought 3-2 battle to #4 SUNY New Paltz.

SJC 3, NCC 0

St. Joseph's earned 25-21, 25-16 and 25-18 wins in straight sets.

Leading the SJC attack were senior Will Flohr and Matt Cole with nine kills apiece. Senior Paul Curaro pitched in with seven and Kyle Allen-Morabito finished with six.

Junior setter Jason Siriban tossed a match-best 32 assists with libero Michael Bosco scooping a team-high 11 digs.

Ben Williams led the Cardinals with nine kills and Justin Curtis added six. Setters Matt Nealson and Michael Trunzo dished 13 and 11 assists, respectively. Libero Parker Nelson recorded a match-high 10 digs.

New Paltz 3, SJC 2

In the second match of the afternoon, the Golden Eagles went ahead 2-0 with 25-18 and 25-23 wins in sets one and two. Set three needed extra points to determine a winner with the Hawks coming out on top 28-26. New Paltz maintained momentum earning 25-19 and 15-10 wins in sets four and five to capture the 3-2 win.

Curaro led all players with a season-high 23 kills while hitting at a .362 clip. Cole added nine kills with Allen-Morabito finishing with seven.

Siriban recorded 41 assists with Flohr coming away with seven digs.

Aaron Clark paced the Hawks with 20 kills with Brendan Spulnick pitching in with 12. Setter Matthew Grace turned in 52 assists with libero Robert Nolan finishing with 12 digs.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, March 1 when they travel to face #3 Stevens Institute of Technology and St. Francis College. Game times are set for 12:00 and 2:00 pm.
