Men's Volleyball Tops Div. I St. Francis College, 3-2

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College men's volleyball team took down Division I St. Francis College in a five-set thriller in the Danzi Center on Thursday evening.

The win moves the Golden Eagles to 7-4 on the season as the Terriers slide to 2-5.

A slow start saw St. Joseph's fall behind early with a 25-17 loss in the opening set. The Golden Eagles bounced back to regain a match lead with 25-20 and 25-14 wins in sets two and three, respectively. St. Francis would not go down easy evening the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth set sending the game into a fifth and decisive set.

 SJC opened the frame with a 5-1 run ultimately building a 10-2 lead. The Terriers were unable to gain any momentum as the Golden Eagle came away with a 15-5 set win.

Senior Paul Curaro led all players with a career-high 21 kills and a .333 hitting percentage. Senior Matt Cole finished with a double-double of 16 kills and 11 digs while hitting at a .344 clip. Senior Will Flohr had a double-double of his own with 10 kills and a team-best 13 digs.

Junior setter Jason Siriban recorded a career-best 57 assists with sophomore Thomas Renick picking up 10 digs.

Middles Bartek Zielinski and James Henneberry paced the Terriers with 13 kills apiece. Michael Basile finished with 11 kills and Johnny Ferraro added 10.

Setter Andrew Piloto tossed 38 assists and libero Derrick Truong recorded 12 digs.

The Golden Eagles return to the Danzi Center on Saturday, February 15 when they host Hunter College. Game time is slated for 1:00 pm.
