Baseball Earns Doubleheader Sweep Over Bears, 9-5, 3-0

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team swept the St. Joseph's College (Brklyn) Bears, 9-5, 3-0, in a Skyline Conference doubleheader late Saturday afternoon at Gregg Alfano. With the wins, the Golden Eagles improve to 10-6 (4-0) as the Bears improve to 7-4 (4-2).

Game 1

SJC-BK 5, SJC-LI 9

The Bears found themselves with the bases loaded with one out in the top first, when the Bears smacked back-to-back hits and a sacrifice fly by Adam Schwartz put SJC-BK ahead 4-0. A double would give the Bears a 5-0 advantage.

The Golden Eagles responded in the bottom of the first after a Paul Britt triple plated home Matthew Burnett and Anthony Bonilla. Dan Campanelli singled home Britt to cut the deficit by 5-3, before Dylan Piscitelli singled to bring Lou Doria home to close the game within one (5-4).

With runners on first and third, Tyler Crafa doubled to right field to bring in Tyler Sanderson and Campanelli to give SJC-LI its first lead of the game (6-5).

In the bottom of the sixth, Britt worked a walk and advanced to third on a wild pitch and stolen base, he would later score on a passed ball for the 7-5 lead.

The Golden Eagles added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh courtesy of an RBI single by Bonilla, and a double by Britt to seal the 8-5 game one victory.  

Despite a rocky first inning, Brandon Lubrano tossed a complete game allowing 11 hits allowing two earned runs and struck out six batters.

Bonilla went 3-for-5 drove in a run and scored two, Campanelli had a 2-for-3 day scored a run and drove in on.

Game 2

SJC-BK 0, SJC-LI 3

After a scoreless two innings, Burnett led off the inning with a walk and advanced to third after a stolen base and a Bonilla single. Louis Fontinha gave the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead after laying down a sac bunt to score Burnett.

With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Burnett added two additional runs with an RBI triple to drive in Piscitelli and Campanelli to secure the 3-0 win.

Receiving the start was Josh Outsen who took a no-hitter to the top of the sixth inning, tossing a complete game shut out allowing two hits and striking out two batters. Campanelli went 2-for-2 and scored a run in the nightcap.

The Golden Eagles continue conference play on Monday, April 3 when they travel to take on Mount St. Mary's at Duchess Stadium in Wappinger Falls, NY at 4:00 PM. Live stats will be available here.
