Baseball Scores Three in the Ninth but Falls Short in 5-4 Loss to Ramapo College

Mahwah, NJThe St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team scored three runs in the ninth inning but it wasn't enough as Ramapo College (14-14) outlasted the Golden Eagles, 5-4, in non-conference action at Jeff Maund Field on Tuesday afternoon.

After three scoreless innings, the Roadrunners began the fourth with a single and after a walk Ramapo singled home a run for the first run of the game.  With two outs, Bobby Shannon ripped a double to left center to drive in two more runs for the 3-0 advantage.

The Roadrunners tallied a run in the sixth after a called balk and took advantage of a throwing error in the seventh for the 5-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles would finally score in the eighth inning when Dylan Piscitelli came up to bat with the bases loaded and reached on a fielder's choice to shorten the visitors' deficit by four (5-1).

In the top of the ninth, SJC loaded the bases and Andrew Libertelli and Paul Britt tallied back-to-back singles to close the gap to two (5-3). With two outs and two on, Tyler Costa ripped a single to right field to drive in a run and put the tying run at third base. Piscitelli had the opportunity to tie the game, but would falter as he struck out swinging.

Nick Mannarino received his first lost of the 2017 campaign tossing five innings, allowing three hits and three runs.

Britt led the game with two hits in his two at-bats and drove in a run, Costa, Piscitelli, and Libertelli all tallied an RBI in the game.
