Lubrano, Outsen Silence Maritime’s Bats in a Complete-Game Shutout Doubleheader Sweep

Patchogue, NY| Strong pitching performances by Brandon Lubrano and Josh Outsen propels the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team past Maritime, giving the Privateers their first two losses in conference play, in a 7-0, 7-0 Skyline Conference doubleheader sweep at Gregg Alfano Field on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 13-7 (7-1 Skyline) while the Privateer drop to 12-9 (6-2) on the year.

SJC-LI 7, Maritime 0

The Golden Eagles got the scoring started in the bottom of the first when Matt Burnett singled to center field, a Paul Britt double and a Lou Doria walk loaded up the bases for Daniel Campanelli who reached on a fielder's choice to drive in Burnett for the 1-0 lead.

With two outs in the second frame, Tyler Crafa worked a walk and stole second before Anthony Bonilla drove in the speedy Crafa for the second run of the game.

A Britt double and a Doria single through the right side to drive in Britt in the bottom of the third and gave the Golden Eagles a 3-0 advantage over the Privateers.

Burnett began the fifth with a walk and advanced to second after a Britt single, Doria tallied his second hit of the contest with an RBI double to widen SJC's lead 4-0.

Burnett led off the seventh with a single to center field and advanced to second with a stolen base, Britt launched an RBI triple to right center to plate Burnett and Doria followed with a double to give the hosts' a 6-0 lead. Piscitelli added an insurance run with a ground out to second base to secure the 7-0 win over Maritime.

"We executed well in the base paths, in the first game, and they (SJC) had quality at-bats," said Head Coach Rick Garret at the end of the first game.

Lubrano earned his fourth win of the season tossing a complete game shutout and fanning nine batters and allowing five hits on the ledger.

Doria went a perfect 3-for-3 driving in three runs and scoring a run, while Burnett had a 2-for-4 day and scored three runs.

The nightcap featured a pitcher's duel in the first three innings before SJC tallied the game's first two runs in the fourth inning. Doria led the frame with a double to right field and scored on the following at bat when Campanelli doubled to left field. With Campanelli at third, Sanderson pulled a ball to the left side to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead.

Raucci singled home two runs in the bottom of the fifth when the Golden Eagles loaded the bases after a Burnett double, Britt Single, and a Doria walk to give the hosts' a 4-0 advantage.

With runners on the corner in the bottom of the sixth, Bonilla singled to right field to score Vinny Biordi and back-to-back singles by Burnett and Britt plated Crafa and Bonilla as the Golden Eagles cruised to a 7-0 win earning the series sweep.

Outsen pitched his ninth complete game of his career, earning his fourth win of the season, tossing seven innings, striking eight batters, and allowing three hits in the contest.

Raucci's two RBIs was a game-high, as Bonilla, Burnett, and Britt all tallied two hits in the contest.
