Men’s Golf Finishes Second in Regular Season Finale

Newburgh, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's golf team fell just short of their second Skyline Invitational win this season on Friday afternoon, as they were defeated by Farmingdale State at the Mount Saint Mary College Fall Golf Invitational in Newburgh, NY.

Behind seniors Christian Bleck's (74) Zac Campanelli's (75) second- and fourth-place individual performances, the Golden Eagles kept pace with the Rams and finished deadlocked with overall scores of 304 after 18 holes. Because Farmingldale's lowest-placing participant Matt Burnett (82, T-14) finished better than Evan Scheuch (85, T-18), St. Joseph's lowest finisher, the Rams claimed the victory.

"Our team played very well on this particular course," said SJC head coach George Cangero. "It's very challenging. Narrow, tree lined fairways with undulating greens, which are very difficult to putt, and consequently score well on."

Rounding out the St. Joseph's competing contingent was junior John Melandro (77), who tied for sixth, and senior Robert Bray (78) who finished in ninth.

"I couldn't be more proud of their performances and am looking forward to the Skyline Conference Championship next week," Cangero said.

The conference championship will be begin on Saturday, October 17 and will be played over the course of three days. The event will be held at Brynwood Country Club in Armonk, NY. Check back on sjcgoldeneagles.com for the results.
