Staten Island, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team was handed a pair of losses, 1-0 and 7-2, in a non-conference doubleheader at the College of Staten Island on Friday afternoon.

Despite notching eight hits in contrast with Staten Island's four, St. Joseph's failed to generate any runs and was doomed by an RBI single off the bat of Gabriele DeLeon (1-for-2) in the sixth inning.

Faring best for the guests was sophomore Franzelyn Russo and senior Kristen Arbiter, who both went 2-for-4 in the contest. Junior Lyndsay Smocer and freshman Zoe Kelly both went 1-for-3.

Earning the start for SJC was senior Theresa Cardello (2-2), who struck out five batters and allowed one earned run.

Appearing poised to change their fortunes in game two, the Golden Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the third inning when Russo (0-for-3) scored on an error and Smocer (2-for-3) knocked in Arbiter (0-for-3) with a single to left center.

A three-run fourth for the hosts put them ahead 3-2 and four more runs in the fifth (7-2), highlighted by Jamie Holmes' (3-for-3) two-RBI double to center, put enough distance between the sides for the Dolphins to cruise to victory.

Senior Ashley Blydenburgh (2-2) struck out four CSI batters and was handed her second loss of the season.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, March 31 when they host SUNY Old Westbury for a Skyline Conference doubleheader at 1:00 pm.
