Softball Takes Two from Yeshiva on Senior Day

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team picked up a pair of Skyline Conference victories, 14-0 and 13-2, over Yeshiva University in a Senior Day doubleheader in Patchogue on Sunday afternoon.

The wins see the Golden Eagles improve to 14-6 on the year and 10-0 in conference play. SJC, sitting solely in second place in the Skyline standings, faces first-place Mount St. Mary College (12-0) on Tuesday afternoon.

SJC 14, Yeshiva 0 (5 innings)

After two runs in the first, the hosts exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the third to go up 13-0. The inning's scoring kicked-off with a Jillian McFadzen (1-for-3) walk that forced home Lyndsay Smocer (2-for-3) wrapped with McFadzen advancing home following Franzelyn Russo's (0-for-2) walk.

Senior Kristen Arbiter (3-for-4) scored senior Theresa Cardello (2-for-4) with an RBI triple to right in the fourth for good measure.

Cardello (7-2) got the start on her senior day and struck out five batters while allowing only two hits.

SJC 13, Yeshiva 2 (5 innings)

Following another two-run first, St. Joseph's posted a six-spot in the second to build an early 8-0 lead. The inning's highlight was Russo's (1-for-1) two-RBI triple to left center that scored Aryana Caputo (1-for-3) and McFadzen (0-for-2).

Yeshiva brought two runs back in the top of the third, but SJC responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning before wrapping the afternoon's scoring with three runs in the fourth inning. Cardello's (1-for-3) two-RBI single took credit for the game's final two runs.

Senior Ashley Blydenburgh (7-2) struck out seven and allowed two hits and zero earned runs in the contest.

The Golden Eagles' high-stakes doubleheader at Mount St. Mary on Tuesday begins at 3:00 pm.
