Softball Splits with Mt. St. Vincent in Season Finale

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College softball team wrapped up the regular season earning a doubleheader split with the College of Mt. St. Vincent Sunday afternoon. After being shutout 2-0 in game one, the Golden Eagles bounced back to take game two 3-1 in nine innings.

St. Joseph's moved to 18-8 on the season and 14-2 in Skyline play. The Dolphins now sit at 14-16 overall and 9-5 in Skyline action.

SJCLI 0, CMSV 2

The Dolphins jumped on the board early with a run in the bottom of the first when Rachel Heizer doubled in the right-center gap scoring Alanna Alioto-Reyes who reached on an infield single a batter earlier.

CMSV added a run in the bottom of the fourth when Meagan Earley singled to left with two outs driving in Taylor Milata who led off the inning with a double.

The Golden Eagles had a runner on in each of the final three innings but were unable to push any runs across ultimately falling 2-0.

Lyndsay Smocer and Jillian McFadzen both finished 2-for-3 at the plate.

SJC starter Theresa Cardello suffered the loss allowing two runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

SJCLI 3, CMSV 1

Scoreless through the first two innings, the Golden Eagles broke through with a run in the top of the third. Kristen Arbiter sent a two-out double to the left-center gap sending in Zoe Kelly for a 1-0 lead.

Both pitchers, SJC's Ashley Blydenburgh and CMSV's Heizer put zeros up on the board until the bottom of the seventh when a two-out triple off the bat of CMSV's B.L. Morita scored Erin Patterson from first tying the score at one and sending the game into extra innings.

After a scoreless eighth, SJC's Ashley Accardi worked a walk to start the top of the ninth and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Cardello. Elise Grau singled and stole second putting two runners in scoring position for Kelly who doubled to right driving in both runs for a 3-1 lead.

Blydenburgh pitched around a leadoff single on the bottom half of the ninth to pick up her ninth win of the season.

The Golden Eagles will enter the Skyline Championship Tournament as the second seed. A complete bracket and tournament schedule will be released early next week.
