Six Golden Eagles Land on Skyline Softball All-Conference Teams
New York, NY| Six members of the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team appeared on Skyline All-Conference teams on Monday morning, including senior Theresa Cardello who was named conference Pitcher of the Year.
Additionally, third-year head coach Lisa Jusino was named Coach of the Year after leading the Golden Eagles into the playoffs with an 18-8 (14-2) record.
Prior to the start of the Skyline Conference Championship on Friday, Cardello (9-3) boasted the conference's top earned run average (1.00) and ranked 14th in the nation in the same category. The North Babylon, NY native also finished second in the conference in opponent batting average (.213) and third in strikeouts (79). The hurler had not given up a home run in her 12 regular-season appearances on the mound.
Joining Cardello on the First-Team was senior catcher Kristen Arbiter, who becomes a two-time honoree having earned the accolade in 2017. In 2018, the Seaford, NY native led the team and ranked second in the conference in hits (38) and RBI's (23) during the regular season. Additionally, Arbiter led the Skyline in doubles (14) and was third in home runs (3).
Rounding out SJC's First-Team contingent were junior shortstop Lyndsay Smocer and sophomore outfielder Ashley Accardi. Prior to the playoffs, Smocer was fourth in the conference in doubles, fifth in slugging percentage and sixth in batting average while Accardi hit .426 in 16 conference contests this season.
Appearing on the Second-Team were senior pitcher Ashley Blydenburgh and sophomore outfielder Franzelyn Russo. A two-time Skyline Pitcher of the Week, Blydenburgh (9-3) was third in the conference with a 2.29 ERA and fourth in opponent batting average (.256). Russo was second in the conference in stolen bases (14), third in triples (3) and boasted a .977 fielding percentage.
