Softball Picks Up Pair of Wins at SJC-Brooklyn

Brooklyn, NY| The St. Joseph's College softball team picked up a pair of Skyline Conference wins over St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn Saturday afternoon at Gil Hodges Field. The Golden Eagles shut the Bears out 3-0 in game one before completing the sweep with a 9-0 win in game two.

SJCLI improves to 10-6 on the season and remains perfect in Skyline action at 6-0. The Bears slide to 6-15 overall, 1-8 Skyline.

SJCLI 3, SJCBK 0

Scoreless through five innings, the Golden Eagles broke through with two runs in the top of the sixth. Back-to-back singles from Zoe Kelly and Franzelyn Russo followed by a sacrifice bunt by Theresa Cordello put runners on second and third with one out. Two batters later, Lyndsay Smocer drove in both runs with a single through the left side.

The Golden Eagles added some insurance with a run in the seventh courtesy of an RBI single down the left field line off the bat of Kelly moving the score to 3-0.

SJCLI starter Cordello pitched around a leadoff double in the bottom half of the seventh to secure the win. The righty improves to 5-2 on the year allowing just two hits with 12 strikeouts.

SJCBK's Victoria Mahoney was tagged with the loss allowing three runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts.

SJCLI 9, SJCBK 0 (6 Innings)

The Golden Eagles grabbed an early lead in game two when a base hit to center from Jillian McFadzen plated Ashley Accardi and Elise Grau for a 2-0 advantage. Accardi belted a home run to left center to start the top of the fourth and later in the inning a two-RBI double from Russo extend the SJCLI lead to 5-0.

SJCLI sent nine Golden Eagles to the plate in the top of the sixth stringing together five hits for four runs to claim the 9-0 win.

Four Golden Eagles recorded multiple hits with Accradi finishing 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Ashley Blydenburgh improves to 5-2 on the season allowing just four hits with seven strikeouts in a complete game effort.

The Golden Eagles return the Skyline Conference play when they travel to Mt. St. Mary College on Sunday, April 15. First pitch is slated for 1:00 pm.
