Lady Golden Eagles Fall at Home to Vassar

Patchogue, N.Y. – The Lady Golden Eagles (1-3) women's basketball team lost their first home game of the season falling to the Vassar College Brewers (2-2), 68-56, despite shooting over 58% from three-point range.

St. Joseph's College played a tight first half with the Brewers for the initial portion of the first period. Sophomore guard Jackie Zizzo (Bethpage, N.Y. / Bethpage) knocked down a three-pointer 10 minutes into the contest match to give the Golden Eagles their second lead of the game.

Following Zizzo's shot, the Eagles would fail to retake the lead for the remainder of the night as the Brewers would go on several runs to create a twenty-point deficit that was too large to overcome.

Sophomore guard Teddi Petre (Ronkonkoma, N.Y. / Connetquot) led a valiant effort to try and revive the Eagles contributing strong hustle plays and tallying six assists, two steals, with four points. Rynese Smith (Greenpoint, N.Y. / Bellport), SJC's starting guard, shot 5-for-8 and 3-for-3 from three-point range to lead her team with 13 points.

SJC rallied behind Petre and Smith's strong play to go on a run of 19-10 to finish out the game.

Guard Meaghan Haber (East Northport, N.Y. / Harborfields) supplied a spark coming off the bench for the Golden Eagles, adding two three-pointers, four rebounds, and eight points.

SJC will now focus on the task at hand as the team remains home to take on the 3-0 New York University Violets this Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
