Women's Basketball Drops Non-Conference Game to Beavers, 55-44

New York, NY| A strong third quarter by the Beavers proved to be the difference as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) dropped its non-conference game, 55-44, to City College of New York at Nat Holman Gymnasium on Monday night. The Beavers improve to 5-3 on the year as SJC falls to 3-6 on the year.

The first half featured back-and-forth action with neither side leading by more than four. The two teams exchanged baskets until the end of the half with City College entered the half up 21-20. Andrea Iavarone led the Golden Eagles with seven points and four rebounds at the end of the half.

The Beavers started the second half with two quick field goals to take a 27-22 lead. City College then sparked a 15-2 run and found itself with a 42-27 lead with three minutes left in the quarter. The two sides exchanged baskets as CCNY continued to lead the game 46-33.

CCNY carried its momentum into the fourth quarter, putting together a 7-3 run to expand its lead to the largest of the night (53-36) with three minutes left to play.  The Golden Eagles tried to reduce the deficit, but City College would run away with the 55-44 win.

Iavarone was held to four points in the second half, finishing the night with 11 points and seven rebounds. Asia Rountree had eight points, seven rebounds, and recorded two steals. Jennifer Gubell shot a perfect 3-for-3 from the field including two three-pointers to finish the game with eight points.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, December 16 when they host Lehman College inside the Danzi Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM. Live stats available here.
