Women's Basketball Drops 69-60 Decision to Farmingdale

Farmingdale, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team dropped its Skyline Conference match, 69-60, to the Farmingdale State College Rams on Thursday afternoon. The Golden Eagles fall to 6-16 (3-10 Skyline) on the year with the loss while Farmingdale State improves to 8-14 (7-6 Skyline).

The Golden Eagles led for most of the first quarter shooting 77.8% from the field (7-9) taking a 17-11 lead into the first intermission. SJC maintained a 22-15 lead with 6:54 to play in the second quarter, however, the Rams sparked a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 22-21 at the 4:37 mark. The guests extended their lead, 30-23, after two made baskets by Andrea Iavarone with 1:57 left in the half before taking a nine-point lead (34-25) into the half.

FSC sparked an early 6-0 run to come within two (36-34) 4:10 into the third but Rynese Smith spearheaded a 5-0 run, scoring all five points, to build a 41-34 lead for SJC at the 4:31 mark. The Rams would then tie the game (46-46) with an 8-1 run with:37 seconds left in the quarter, but the Golden Eagles tallied the final four points to end the quarter up 50-46.

Meghan Cleary opened the final quarter with a three-pointer for Farmingdale to close the gap to one (50-49), and the Rams took their first lead (51-50) since the opening quarter after a made layup by Tyra Harrison.  Harrison then sparked a 7-0 run, scoring five points, to give the Rams a 63-56 lead with 3:50 left in the game.  Farmingdale closed out the game scoring the final six points as the Golden Eagles fell to the Rams 60-69.

Smith finished the game with 19 points, going 6-for-7 from the charity stripe, and picking up four rebounds. Iavarone recorded her 15th double with a 14 points/18 rebound performance.

The Golden Eagles will continue on their road trip on Sunday, February 14 when they take on SUNY Purchase. Tip-off is scheduled for 11 AM. Follow live here
